We are home from the hospital and doing great! We are so in love with our new little guy!
The past few days have been such a whirlwind.
Tuesday night, just after dinner, Jeremy left for scouts (started at 7). About 7:20, I went upstairs to switch a load of laundry and had my first contraction. I didnt think much of it, thinking maybe it was just cramping. Then, about five minutes later, another one.. then another one. I was laying on my bed, next to Jack who was watching Backyardigans and completely oblivious. I grabbed my cell phone and called Jeremy, only to hear it ring downstairs on the kitchen island. Great. Jeremy's parents were home but were busy working downstairs so I really didnt want to call down to bother in case I was just being silly and was in false labor. But after another contraction, I called down to Vicky and asked her if she would run to the church and get Jeremy. She immediately knew what was going on and the panic began;) I had my suitcase out on the bed (the reason I was doing laundry.. had planned on packing that night!) but it wasn't packed so I told Vicky the things we needed and she packed for me. Jeremy arrived home and we we got in the car and on the highway (my hospital is 45 minutes away) about 8 pm.
After just a little speeding, we arrived there at 8:35 and I was immediately taken into the delivery room- at this point my contractions seem almost constant. I tell the nurse that I would like an "epidural, if I can get one" and she says "Of course you can have one!" with a big smile on her face.. until she checks my cervix. Then she says, "You're dialated to a 9, almost 10, no epidural.. you're having this baby right now!"
I am a wimp so immediately Jeremy tries to keep me from losing it. They call my doctor and he arrives in 10 minutes even though I know he lives across town because I helped with the design in his house. When he gets in to my room, he is out of breath.
Long story short, Tate was born at 9:27 pm, just over 2 hours from my first contraction. It was the most painful thing I've experienced given the lack of any painkillers, but at least it went fast!

Where have I been? CONGRATS, Laura! Tate is one darling baby and I'm so glad things went fast for you. Holy moly woman, talk about tough...I don't think I would have survived w/o that epidural. :)
congrats!!! He is so cute! You had him the same day as my sister Laura - and she had a super fast labor and delivery too. Must have been something in the air. :)
Enjoy it all!
Laura,
Congratulations on your new baby! I am so sorry you had to go through it without an epidural. I think you should get extra points in Heaven for that! I love the name Tate. My good friend in MN has a brother named Tate and he is a great guy, I have loved that name ever since! Wishing you and your family the best.
