Projects of the Week

OK I never did tell you all how my "postcard" class went. It was so easy and fun. It was on Friday night for a couple hours. For some reason I thought it was Saturday too...which after making one is hilarious because they really only take like 20-30 minutes to make or less. The pic on the right is my "practice" one that I completed in class. Its a little rough so don't look close. The one on the left is the one I didn't quite finish yet. I spent most of the class talking or shopping (if you shop on the night of the class you get 15% discount. And since this particular store has all the nicest, most expensive name brand fabrics, I couldn't resist. Plus, I like sewing but not more than shopping.)
You can get directions on how to make one here.

Today I have spent some time piecing together the "boy" quilt (I still need to add one more row of the sports ball squares) for the Child Care center that I'm donating it to. I used flannels so that it will be softer and warmer than the average quilt. I made up this pattern..I wanted something pretty easy and simple so that I wouldn't burn myself out and could easily make more in the future. Plus, I am not a big fan of "traditional" quilts, I am definitely more contemporary.

This is the flannel I picked for the "girl" quilt, which I've already started cutting out even though I'm not done with the boy one. Typical me!

Jack is feeling better, thanks for everyone's concern. He's decided the "keyboard" (we have an extra cordless one) is his new favorite toy and even wants to take it in his crib with while he sleeps. Nothing more comforting than a nice, soft..keyboard.

Glad you are feeling better, little Jack. :)

Your "postcards" are way too cute to send off into the postal system. You should frame those! I wish I could do something like that...

You changed the girl quilt fabric? What did you do with the other flannel? The boy quilt is looking good.

I am so glad Jack is feeling better.

Cute, cute. I like working with flannel and make baby blenkets that I crochet the edges with. I am not sure if you know or if you have a JoAnn's fabric store, but the day after thanksgiving they have a huge sale where all flannel is 0.99 a yard. I make time for that!

You are quite the little homemaker aren't you? I wish I could get into that...I enjoy sewing..but if I look at a pattern it may as well be in Japanese, because I don't understand them at all! I like to make up my own patterns, so maybe quilting would be fun for me! I'll have to add it to my list of things to try. Do you quilt it with ties or do you have a machine that quilts it all?

Teresa- Thanks for the tip! Im so going!
Mardi-My MIL has a 12' short arm quilting machine (it takes up her formal living room). It makes it REALLY easy..and its funner to do than ties. I usually just draw up a pattern and follow that.. but a pattern this easy you woudn't even need a quilting machine. You could just sew along the all the seams between the squares and it'd be all good. And if by homemaking you are also including cooking & cleaning, then NO I'm not quite the homemaker. Just ask Jeremy.
